How do I start a round?

To start a round:

  1. Open the 18Birdies app.
  2. Tap Play on the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Start Round.
  4. Choose the course you want to play.
  5. Review your round setup options.
  6. Add players, if needed.
  7. Tap Play to begin the round.

Before starting, make sure the course, tees, starting hole, and round type are correct.


How do I choose a course?

When starting a round, 18Birdies will show your nearest course or you can search for a course.

To choose a course:

  1. Open the 18Birdies app.
  2. Tap Play on the bottom menu.
  3. Search for the course by tapping Switch Course or choose the nearby course.
  4. Select the correct course.
  5. Confirm the course name and location.

If you do not see the course you are looking for, check the spelling, search by city or course name, or see Missing or Incorrect Courses.

What round setup options do I choose?

Round setup options include:

Setting What it means
Round Type Choose whether you are playing 18 holes or 9 holes (front or back)
Starting Hole Choose the hole where you are beginning the round
Tees Select the tee box you are playing
Scoring Mode Choose how you want to enter scores or track the round

Can I start a round before I get to the course?

Yes, but GPS distances work best when you are at or near the course.

Starting early may show incorrect distances until your location updates.

Can I start on the back nine?

Yes. During round setup, you can choose to play the front nine, back nine, or select a specific starting hole.

Can I start on any hole I would like?

Yes. During round setup, choose the hole where you want to begin.

This can be helpful if you are starting on a hole other than Hole 1 or Hole 10.

Does 18Birdies support a shotgun start?

Yes. If your group is using a shotgun start, choose the hole where you are starting during round setup.

Each golfer can begin on the appropriate starting hole for their round.

Can I change tees after starting a round?

You may be able to change tees during an active round from round settings.

Some settings may not be editable after the round is finished.

What should I do if I chose the wrong course?

If you have not saved the round yet, end or discard the round and start again with the correct course.

After a round is saved, the course played may not be editable.
