What are 18Birdies Tournaments?

18Birdies Tournaments make it easy to create, join, and compete in golf events directly inside the 18Birdies app.

With 18Birdies Tournaments, organizers can set up an event, invite players, choose scoring settings, manage leaderboards, and track scores in real time. Players can join from the app, start their tournament round, add playing partners, and follow the leaderboard throughout the event.

Tournaments can be used for casual competitions, charity outings, club events, public course events, virtual competitions, and more.

What types of tournaments can I create?

18Birdies supports several tournament types depending on how and where your players will compete.

Private or Public Tournaments

Private Tournaments:

Private tournaments are invite-based. Players usually join with a tournament code, QR code, invite link, or direct invite from the organizer.

Private tournaments are a good option when the organizer wants to control who can join the event.

Public Tournaments:

Public Tournaments are open competitions that golfers can discover and join without needing a private invite.

A Public Tournament is created at a course and runs during a selected tournament window. Golfers who play that course during the active window can join and compete on the leaderboard.

Public Tournaments can be found from Course Profiles, Events on the Community section, friend activity, invite links, and QR codes.

In-Person or Virtual Tournaments

In Person Tournaments:

In-person tournaments are designed for players competing at the same golf course.

They can include:

Single-course eventsMultiple-round eventsTee time or shotgun startsGross and net leaderboardsPlayer handicap settingsTeam or individual scoring formats

In-person tournaments are a great option for charity outings, club events, company golf days, leagues, and friend groups playing at the same course.

Virtual Tournaments:

Virtual tournaments allow players to compete from different golf courses.

This is helpful when players are in different cities, states, or countries. Players can select a course from the 18Birdies course database when starting their tournament round.

For virtual tournaments, 18Birdies uses course information such as par, slope, and rating to help create a fair leaderboard across different courses.

What scoring formats are available?

18Birdies supports multiple scoring formats for tournaments, including:

  • Stroke Play
  • Stableford
  • Best Ball
  • Scramble
  • Stroke Play + Best Ball

Each format works differently depending on whether players are competing individually or as teams.

For more details about how each format works and set up, see Scoring Formats for Tournaments & Leagues.
