Japan Double Greens

Japan Double Greens

One of the most unique features of golf in Japan is their double greens. Not just two holes in a green, but two entirely separate putting surfaces. Each green has its own flag, its own grass type, and its own distances. Most golf apps did not account for this, leading to inaccurate distances, wrong hole info, and a frustrating experience on the course. 18Birdies fully supports Japan double greens so your GPS, shot tracking, and scoring are always accurate to the green you are actually playing.

Finding Double Green Courses in Japan

All double green courses in Japan that we know of are supported by 18Birdies. Search for your course normally and if it has double greens, the feature will appear automatically.

How It Works

Start your round like you normally would. If the course you are playing has double greens, a Switch Green button will appear on the right side of your screen. Tap it to swap between Green A and Green B at any point.

Green A and Green B each have their own distances and hole information mapped separately, so the following always reflect the green you are actually playing:

  • GPS distances
  • Shot tracking
  • Strokes Gained
  • Round history and scoring

I Accidentally Selected the Wrong Green

Tap the Switch Green button on the right side of your screen to correct your selection at any point during your round.

FAQ

Why is there no heatmap for my green?

Heatmap data is pulled from a third party source. We are aware that some double greens are not yet showing heatmap data and are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

My course has double greens but I do not see the Switch Green option in 18Birdies. What should I do?

Reach out to us at Support@18Birdies.com with the course name and we will get it added as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Can I switch greens after I have already started my round?

Yes. The Switch Green button is available at any point during your round. Tap it on the right side of your screen to swap between Green A and Green B whenever you need to.

Will switching greens affect my score or stats?

Switching greens updates your GPS distances and tracking data going forward. It does not alter any shots or scores already recorded in your round.

Do I need a Premium subscription to use double greens?

No. Double green support is available to all 18Birdies users at no additional cost.

Are double greens supported outside of Japan?

We are aware that double greens exist at a small number of courses outside of Japan. We do not support those yet but it is on our roadmap.

How do I know which green is in play before my round?

18Birdies does not determine which green is in play. The course staff will indicate which green is active before your round begins, typically on the scorecard or at the first tee.
