Scramble Mode is golf at its most relaxed and most fun. Every good shot gives you something to celebrate, and the tough ones are just part of the ride. 
Play with friends and feed off each other’s best swings, or go solo and enjoy a pressure-free round that’s all about having fun.

What Is Scramble Mode in 18Birdies?

Scramble Mode is a solo or team-based golf format that's perfect for beginners, charity tournaments, and friendly rounds with friends. In a Scramble, all players tee off, and the team picks the best shot. 

Use the Scramble Mode in 18Birdies to accurately account for your in-round performance stats, while also being able to keep track of score correctly for the Scramble format.

How to Set Up a Scramble Round

Setting up a Scramble round in 18Birdies is straightforward:

Basic Round Setup

  1. On the Round Setup screen, under Classic Mode, select Scramble format
  2. Choose Scramble as your Scoring Mode when starting your round
  3. Add players to the round.
  4. Set up teams with players in each team

Team Configuration Options

You can create various team configurations :

  • 2v2 or 2v3 formats - Two teams competing against each other
  • 1v2, 1v3, or 1v4 formats - Uneven team matchups
  • Single team format - Just one team with 2, 3, 4, or 5 players (no versus competition)

How Scramble Mode Works During Your Round

Scoring and GPS Features

  • Each player on each team can edit the scores for either team on that hole
  • On the GPS page, each team member will see the team score
  • Individual stats are not tracked during Scramble rounds
  • Shot tracking is removed from Scramble rounds

Scorecard Display

The scorecard is designed specifically for team play :

  • Uses the current scorecard structure with team-specific modifications
  • The team with fewer people appears on top
  • Team numbers are displayed at or near player profiles, possibly with background colors
  • Each team's score is shown in the row of the top player for that team
  • No Net Score is displayed
  • Clear indication that this is a scramble round

Setting Up a Scramble Tournament

For larger events with 2 or more groups, you can create a Scramble Tournament :

  1. Launch the 18Birdies app
  2. Tap Community
  3. Tap Tournaments
  4. Tap Create or Use a code to join a Tournament
  5. Tap Scramble
  6. Choose In Person or Virtual Events
  7. Complete the Tournament Creation process

Important Limitations and Features

What's Not Available in Scramble Mode

  • Individual stats (like putts and net score) are hidden during Scramble rounds
  • Scramble rounds do not count toward your handicap, goals, or individual stats
  • You cannot change the scoring mode after starting a Scramble round

Team Collaboration

The scorecard displays a single score per team, and all teammates can view and edit scores . This collaborative approach ensures everyone stays engaged and can contribute to scorekeeping throughout the round.

Round Card Features

The round card for scramble rounds provides a clear overview :

  • Shows players on each team (when there are two teams)
  • Displays scores for each team (when there are two teams)
