Direct Messaging

At 18Birdies, we aim to create a community of friendly golfers. With Direct Messaging, we want to make it easier for you to communicate with your friends. You can send private messages to friends in 18Birdies -- either individually or in a group chat!

How to Send a Direct Message

1. Open the app and tap the Direct Message icon in the upper left corner of the screen to access your Direct Messages
2. You will now be on your Direct Message home. Tap on the “+” sign in the bottom right corner to start a new message
3. Tap on 1 or more friends to chat with then hit “Done”
4. Type in your message and hit send to start chatting!

Responding to a Direct Message

1. Once a Direct Message has been received, tap the Direct Message icon in the upper left corner of the screen. A red dot should appear in the Direct Message icon, indicating that a direct message has been received
2. To open the message, tap the message that you want to respond to.
3. Tap the message bar at the bottom to start a response.
4. Tap Send to send the message.

Group Message Options

To access more messaging options, tap the Group icon in the upper right corner of the message thread.

• Tap the "+Add Player" icon to add another 18Birdies user to your conversation.
• Tap Mute Notifications to turn off mobile push notifications for this group.
• Tap Rename Conversation to give your group message a unique name.

Delete a Conversation

You can delete an entire thread by following these steps: 

1. Open the app and tap the chat bubble in the upper right corner.
2. Swipe directionally left on the conversation.
3. Tap Delete.

Add a New Friend to an Existing Group Direct Message

1. When a message has been received and you are in the conversation window, tap the person icon in the upper right corner.
2. On the Details screen, tap the the “+” icon next to the original recipient/ senders profile image/ name.
3. Find the users name who you want to add to the conversation, then tap Done in the upper right corner.

Mute Notifications

1. To stop conversation notifications on your device, tap the person/people icon in the upper right corner of the message screen.
2. Tap the toggle button next to Mute Notifications.

Leaving a Group Conversation

1. When you are in the Group Conversation screen, tap the people icon in the upper right corner.
2. Tap Leave Conversation.

Renaming a Group Conversation

1. When you are in the Group Conversation screen, tap the people icon in the upper right corner.
2. Tap Rename Conversation.
3. Enter the conversation name and then tap Save. Conversation names are limited to 30 characters or less.
