Connect 18Birdies to Meta Glasses

Connect your 18Birdies and Meta AI accounts to unlock a hands-free golf experience on the course. Once connected, you can start rounds, get real-time distances, log scores, check weather conditions, and receive game play tips all using voice commands through your Meta AI Glasses.

Your phone stays in your pocket. Just say "Hey Meta," and 18Birdies delivers the information you need in real time through your glasses' speakers.

The Meta AI Glasses integration is available to all 18Birdies users, including Free and Premium members.

Compatible glasses: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Skylers, Headliner, Scribner, Oakley HSTN, Oakley Vanguard, Meta Adventurer, Meta Fury, Meta Starfire and Meta Glasses.

How do I connect 18Birdies to Meta AI Glasses?

To connect your accounts:

  1. Download and open the Meta AI app on your phone.
  2. Pair your Meta AI Glasses with the Meta AI app.
  3. In the Meta AI app, tap Settings and go to App Connections.
  4. Select 18Birdies.
  5. Tap Connect.
  6. Sign in to your 18Birdies account if prompted.
  7. Review the permissions and authorize the connection.

Once connected, your 18Birdies account is linked and voice features are available whenever you start a round.

Important:

  • Your phone must be nearby during your round (within Bluetooth range, typically 30 feet). It does not need to be in your hand.
  • For the best experience, enable “Always Allow” location access for both the 18Birdies app and the Meta AI app. Go to your phone's Settings → 18Birdies → Location → Always.

How do I start a round using my glasses?

You can start a round directly from your glasses using natural language. No exact phrasing is required.

Examples:

  • "Hey Meta, start a round at [course name] from the [color] tees"
  • "Hey Meta, I want to play a round of golf at [course name]"
  • "Hey Meta, start golf round" — Meta AI will ask follow-up questions to gather the course name and tee box if they're not included

If your GPS location is detected, Meta AI may suggest the course you're at automatically.

You can also start a round directly in the 18Birdies app on your phone as you normally would.

Important:

  • A round must be active before you can use distances, score logging, stats, or game play tips through your glasses.
  • If you ask for any of these without an active round, Meta AI will prompt you to start one first.

What can I do with voice commands during a round?

Get Distance

  • "Hey Meta, how far am I from the green?" → Returns distance to the center of the green
  • "Hey Meta, how far am I from the front/back of the green?" → Returns front or back distance

Available to all users, Free and Premium.

Note: Exact distances to the flag are not supported, since pin locations change daily at most courses. Meta AI will return the distance to the center of the green instead.

Premium users automatically receive Plays Like Distance (adjusted for wind, elevation, and altitude) alongside every distance response.

Get Club Recommendations 

  • "Hey Meta, what club should I use?"
  • "Hey Meta, what club do you suggest for reaching the green?"

Club recommendations require your Golf Bag to be set up in the 18Birdies app. If your bag isn't set up, Meta AI will prompt you to add it before making a recommendation.

Log Scores

How to Track - log your scores directly with your glasses so that we know what hole you are on to track your progress. Smart Tracking auto-detects putts, fairways, and other stats:

  • "Hey Meta, log a birdie on hole 5"
  • "Hey Meta, log a 4 on hole 13" (by stroke count)

Log your scores directly with your glasses after each hole. Meta AI will confirm your entry, including the Hole Number and Score. 

While stats are not yet supported, you can enter stats for each hole in the 18Birdies app.

Important: 18Birdies and Meta use your past score input to determine which hole you are playing. For most accurate results, ensure you log scores after each hole, especially on courses with tight layouts. 

Get Real-Time Round Stats

  • "Hey Meta, what's my score to par?"
  • "Hey Meta, how am I doing so far?"
  • "Hey Meta, how many putts have I taken?"
  • "Hey Meta, how many fairways have I hit?" 

As you play your round, you can ask Meta about various aspects of your game. Real-time insights are delivered based on score and stats logged via your glasses and on the 18Birdies app. 

Stats insights, like putts, fairways, and greens in regulation, must be tracked in the 18Birdies app.

Get Game Play Tips

  • "Hey Meta, where should I aim my tee shot?" → Returns strategy and miss guidance based on the 18Birdies Tee Shot Planner for the current hole (e.g., "For hole 3, favor the right side of the fairway; users typically score worse if they miss left.")

Club recommendations and strategy are automatically included in tee shot guidance. Premium users also receive Plays Like Distance as part of the strategy.

Get Weather Details

  • "Hey Meta, what's the wind direction?"
  • "Hey Meta, what's the temperature?"
  • "Hey Meta, what's the weather like?"

Weather queries during a round are routed to 18Birdies for golf-specific, course-location data. Queries about other locations or future forecasts are handled by Meta AI directly.

Take Photos and Videos

  • "Hey Meta, take a photo"
  • "Hey Meta, take a video"

Photos and videos are saved to the Meta AI app. From there, you can share them to the 18Birdies Community feed, Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, or save them to your camera roll.

What information does 18Birdies share with Meta AI?

When you connect your accounts and start a round, 18Birdies shares the following with Meta AI to power voice features:

  • Course name and location
  • Hole number and tee selection
  • Distances to the green (center, front, back)
  • Your current score and round statistics
  • Weather data for your course location
  • Subscription status (Free or Premium), to determine feature access
  • Golf bag setup (for club recommendations, Premium only)

18Birdies does not share your personal account credentials with Meta AI. Permissions can be reviewed and revoked at any time in the Meta AI app under App Connections or in the 18Birdies app settings.

Who can see my golf activities?

Photos and videos captured through your glasses are saved to the Meta AI app. Photos and videos do not automatically post to your 18Birdies round when taken with the Meta AI glasses. Visibility is controlled by your Meta AI and 18Birdies privacy settings.

Rounds shared to the 18Birdies Community feed follow your existing 18Birdies privacy settings. 18Birdies doesn't control the visibility of content after it's shared outside the app.

How do I disconnect Meta AI?

To disconnect your Meta AI account:

  1. Open the Meta AI app.
  2. Tap App Connections.
  3. Select 18Birdies.
  4. Tap Disconnect.

To disconnect from 18Birdies: 

  1. Open the 18Birdies App
  2. Tap Me
  3. Tap ...
  4. Tap Connected Apps & Devices 
  5. Tap Meta AI Glasses 
  6. Tap Disconnect

Disconnecting stops all voice features from working through your glasses. Your round history and data in 18Birdies are not affected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Meta AI Glasses to use this feature?

Yes. This integration is built specifically for all of the Meta AI smart glasses: Meta Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Skylers, Headliner, Scribner, Oakley HSTN, Oakley Vanguard, Meta Adventurer, Meta Fury, Meta Starfire & Meta Glasses. You'll also need the Meta AI app (free to download) and an active 18Birdies account.

Is the Meta AI Glasses integration free?

Yes. The integration is available to all 18Birdies users. Features that are Free in the 18Birdies app are Free on the glasses. Features that require Premium in the 18Birdies app, like club recommendations and Plays Like Distance, require 18Birdies Premium to work on the glasses.

How do Meta AI and 18Birdies know what hole I am playing?

The app uses a combination of your current location and scores logged to determine which hole you are actively playing. For most accurate results, ensure you log your score at the end of each hole, especially on courses with tight layouts. 

Do I need my phone with me on the course?

Yes. Your phone must be within Bluetooth range of your glasses (typically 30 feet) throughout your round. It doesn't need to be in your hand, a pocket, cart, or golf bag is fine.

Can I use this feature without cell service?

No. An active internet connection is required because Meta AI processes your voice commands and 18Birdies fetches course data and distances in real time. In areas with poor cell reception, the glasses integration may not work reliably. You can still use 18Birdies directly on your phone if course data is pre-downloaded.

What if someone else in my group also has Meta AI Glasses connected to 18Birdies?

Each person's glasses are paired to their own Meta AI account and 18Birdies account. You won't interfere with each other, every golfer gets their own personalized distances and scores.

Does running this integration drain my battery faster?

Yes, slightly. Running 18Birdies, Meta AI, Bluetooth, and GPS simultaneously uses more battery than 18Birdies alone. We recommend starting your round with a full charge and bringing a portable charger for longer rounds.

Will photos I take through my glasses appear automatically in 18Birdies?

No. Photos and videos are saved to the Meta AI app first. You'll need to manually share them to the 18Birdies Community feed if you want them in your golf profile.

Troubleshooting

My glasses aren't giving me distances.

Check the following:

  • A round is active in 18Birdies (start one in the app or say "Hey Meta, start a round at [course]").
  • Your phone is within Bluetooth range and the Meta AI app is running.
  • Your accounts are still connected: Meta AI app → App Connections → 18Birdies → should show Connected.
  • Ensure  “Always Allow” location access is enabled for both the 18Birdies app and the Meta AI app. Go to your phone's Settings → 18Birdies → Location → Always.
  • You have an active internet connection.

If distances still aren't working, try disconnecting and reconnecting your account in the Meta AI app.

My score didn't save.

Check the following:

  • You had an internet connection when you logged the score.
  • The round was active at the time of logging.

If the score didn't save, enter it manually in the 18Birdies app. You can access your active round from the home screen.

The distance seems wrong.
  • Meta AI may not be correctly detecting your hole. You can specify the hole in your voice command (e.g., "How far am I from the green on hole 7?") or advance holes manually in the 18Birdies app.
  • Ensure  “Always Allow” location access is enabled for both the 18Birdies app and the Meta AI app. Go to your phone's Settings → 18Birdies → Location → Always.
I'm not connected to 18Birdies.

Go to Meta AI app → App Connections → 18Birdies → Connect, and sign in to your 18Birdies account again.

I can't find the setup instructions in the app.

Go to 18Birdies app → Settings → Connected Apps → Meta AI Glasses → Setup Guide.
