At 18Birdies, we aim to create a community of friendly golfers. Easily create private groups and group direct messages within the 18Birdies app to communicate with your friends.
Important Changes to Groups in 18Birdies
03/09/2023: We recently made some changes to Groups and Group Direct Messaging in the app. If you had an active private group using the old Private Group structure, there is no longer direct access for Private Groups in the app.
You may temporarily access the old Private Group section by tapping here from your mobile device.
This link should only be used as a temporary access point to retrieve any information, messages, or 18Birdies user contacts that were contained within your private group.

How to Create a New Group and Group Direct Message
- Open the app and tap the Direct Message icon in the upper left corner of the screen to access your Direct Messages.
- You will now be on your Direct Message home. Tap on the “+” sign in the bottom right corner to start a new message
- Tap on 1 or more friends to chat with then hit “Done”
- Type in your message and hit send to start chatting!
Group Direct Messages support links! Enter a URL and the app will automatically convert it to a tappable link. An in-app browser window will open to the specified webpage.
Responding to a Group Direct Message
- Once a Direct Message has been received, tap the Direct Message icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
A red dot should appear in the Direct Message icon, indicating that a direct message has been received - To open the message, tap the message that you want to respond to.
- Tap the message bar at the bottom to start a response.
- Tap Send to send the message.
Add a New Friend to an Existing Group Direct Message
- When a message has been received and you are in the conversation window, tap the person icon in the upper right corner.
- On the Details screen, tap the the “+” icon next to the original recipient/ senders profile image/ name.
- Find the users name who you want to add to the conversation, then tap Done in the upper right corner.
Group Message Options
To access more messaging options, tap the Group icon in the upper right corner of the message thread
- Tap the "+Add Player" icon to add another 18Birdies user to your conversation.
- Tap Mute Notifications to turn off mobile push notifications for this group.
- Tap Rename Conversation to give your group message a unique name.
Mute Notifications for a Group Direct Message
- To stop conversation notifications on your device, tap the person/people icon in the upper right corner of the message screen.
- Tap the toggle button next to Mute Notifications.
Leaving a Group Direct Message
- When you are in the Group Conversation screen, tap the people icon in the upper right corner.
- Tap Leave Conversation.
Renaming a Group Direct Message
- When you are in the Group Conversation screen, tap the people icon in the upper right corner.
- Tap Rename Conversation.
- Enter the conversation name and then tap Save. Conversation names are limited to 30 characters or less.
Delete a Group Direct Message
You can delete a Group Direct Message by following these steps:
- Open the app and tap the chat bubble in the upper right corner.
- Swipe directionally left on the conversation.
- Tap Delete.
Once a Group Direct Message has been deleted, no data from the message can be retrieved.
