18Birdies Spring Open

Welcome to our very first app-wide tournament! The 18Birdies Spring Open is a virtual tournament that golfers can play on any course, anywhere in the world.
Tournament players will have the chance to interact and play golf with other 18Birdies users, post and share content to the Tournament Feed – and win sweet prizes (like a Scotty Cameron putter)!
Read on for more prize information and the official rules. To make the tournament fair for all players, scores will be calculated and tracked using the Peoria Scoring System (a system designed, in part, to reduce the chance of cheating in a golf tournament).

How does it work?

With the Peoria Scoring Systems, 6 holes are secretly selected as the scoring holes. At the end of the tournament, the 6 secret holes will be revealed and top performers will be shown on the Individual Stroke - Net leaderboard. This is the leaderboard from which 18Birdies will use the Qualified Round criteria to select a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner.
The 6 holes consist of two par 3s, two par 4s and two par 5s with one of each type per nine (one par 3 on the front, the other on the back nine). Golfers do not know which holes have been selected. Players tee off and complete their rounds, playing stroke play and scoring in the normal fashion.
Not ready to join or just want to follow along? Joining the Tournament does not require that you play in the Tournament.
While you won't qualify to win any prizes, we welcome users to join the Tournament to view the leaderboard and cheer on players over the next two weeks.

Format

The 18Birdies Spring Open is an individual stroke play tournament, using the modified Peoria Scoring System.
Peoria Rules
The 18Birdies Spring Open is an individual stroke play tournament, using the modified Peoria Scoring System. 6 holes will be randomly selected at the end of the Tournament. A player's handicap for that round will be calculated based on the score on those 6 secret holes.
A modified Peoria handicap is calculated by adding the player’s strokes over par on the selected hole, and multiplying that number by 2.8. This will be the player’s allowance to be deducted from the gross score. The maximum hole score for allowance purposes is three over par on par-3s and 4s, and four over par on par-5s.
A player scores 98 for a round. The player is 11 over par on the six selected holes.
11 x 2.8 = 30.8 = 31 stroke allowance
Net score is 98 - 31 = 67 Net

Tournament Rules and Guidelines

Specific tournament rules are outlined within the 18Birdies App. To qualify you must play and post one (1) Qualified round at a course of your choosing (Par 70 or greater) between April 3rd, 2019 and April 14th, 2019.
In the event that there is a tie, the USGA recommended method for tiebreakers will be used to determine the winner. If a tie still remains after this method is applied the winner will be selected based first on most birdies in their round, and then if still tied, we’ll award the tiebreaker to whoever made birdie first in their round.
Tournament admins reserve the right to contest and/or disqualify any questionable or suspect rounds.
By joining the tournament, participants agree to allow 18Birdies to use information listed on participant's 18Birdies profile for promotional purposes including, but not limited to, social media posts in the 18Birdies app, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Written consent from the participant may be required in accordance with state law.
No purchase necessary. All are welcome to play but you must be a United States resident to be eligible to win prizes. Void where prohibited. See full contest rules for more information.

Prize Deadlines

All contests will conclude on the date posted. Golf rounds played after the posted end date are not eligible for tournament or contest entry. Golf rounds played after the posted end date are not eligible for prizes.

Prize Selection

Three (3) winners will be selected based on the top 3 tournament performers. Top 3 tournament performers is defined by the first three places on the net tournament leaderboard.
Five (5) “MVP” winners will be selected from a random drawing scheduled to be held up to five (5) business days after the deadline.
To qualify for the “MVP” random prize drawing, Tournament participants must contribute at least one (1) form of user-generated content (e.g. photos and videos) to the Tournament Feed. A total of eight (8) winners will be selected for the tournament.

Eligibility

The Tournament is open to 18Birdies users who are 18 years of age or older, valid date of birth is required. A participant must be an active user of 18Birdies. Active user is defined by the participant using the 18Birdies app to score the tournament round.
Tournament rounds must be considered “Qualified” to be eligible for the contest. No purchase is necessary for any contest. Purchase does not enhance chance of winning

Winner Selection and Notification

The odds of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received. Any attempted second entry shall be discarded, and the entrant may be disqualified from the Contest.
All drawings will be conducted by the 18Birdies staff. The decisions of the 18Birdies staff are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest. Entrants need not be present at the drawing to win a prize.
Winner(s) will be announced in the 18Birdies App. Additionally, winner(s) will be notified by email or phone. If a winner cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been made within five (5) business days of 18Birdies’ first attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, an alternate winner may be selected.
In the event that there is a tie, the USGA recommended method for tiebreakers will be used to determine the winner. The USGA recommended method recommends, in the event of a tie, selecting a winner based on the best score for the last nine holes.
If a tie still remains after the USGA recommended method is applied the winner will be selected based first on most birdies in their round, and then if still tied, we’ll award the tiebreaker to whoever made birdie first in their round.
