How Much Data does the 18Birdies App Use?

Data usage for any app is a combination of things. The amount of GPS you use will increase your data usage.

For example, if you leave the GPS screen on as you walk around the course, you are constantly updating your location as you move around the course. The scorecard only uses data when you add scores and stats, and the amount of data would be smaller than the GPS.

Which carrier(s) that has/have cell towers available in the area around the course will also affect battery usage.

For example, if the tower next to the course is by XYZ Wireless and not 123 Cellular, then you will probably ping the tower less frequently for XYZ Wireless and it won't stress the battery.

Though all devices and users consume data differently, our own testing of all the standard features of the app has shown that the app uses close to 100 MB of data (about 100 business emails) during the course of an 18-hole round.

Although we are unable to guarantee this, we are pretty confident that this is the expected amount of data used.

Enable low battery mode

Low Battery Mode will decrease the battery used by the app by turning off background location tracking to make sure that the battery of your phone will be able to last through your entire round.
  1. Launch the 18Birdies app.
  2. Tap Play and continue setting up your round to enter the GPS screen.
  3. Tap Tools on the bottom right side of the GPS.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Scroll down and tap the toggle next to Low Battery Mode.
  6. Tap Enable.

Sounds awesome, right? Click here to open the app on your device and start your round!
